Karli Mallette (she/her)

Intern

Hi there!

You have taken the first step in the counseling process and that is something worth celebrating! My name is Karli, and I am finishing my master’s degree in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Western Michigan University this summer, and will be a LLPC in the fall.

I am passionate about supporting people implementing change to live in a more authentic and joyful way. My therapeutic approach begins by building rapport with my clients and getting to know their unique circumstances. This allows me to incorporate my clients' current world into therapeutic goals and begin healing in a way that resonantes with their brain.

The focus of my work thus far has centered around food and body image issues. Eating disorders are as distinct as the individuals that are impacted by them. Through my continued work with ARFID clients, I utilize my attention to detail to better work with and understand these individuals. I also strive to incorporate clients' families into sessions to help pave paths to recovery, improving their household communication and increasing awareness and understanding of issues to better support each other.

I also believe that therapy can be fun, and enjoy exploring this as I develop my play theory skills with adolescent clients of all ages. I work with clients from ages 5 and up and my most important goal is for them to feel comfortable in therapy, especially those with neurodivergent brains.

As a queer, neurodivergent woman in a larger body, my own lived experiences have shaped my worldview and belief that all bodies deserve to take up space. I’m passionate about helping individuals improve their relationships with food and their bodies, particularly through the principles of Body Trust®️.

In my free time I enjoy being with my family, partner, and friends. I am known for being able to solve even the most ‘impossible’ of jigsaw puzzles—ask me about my latest one! You can also find me cuddling my 2 orange cats (Oscar & Monet), camping, doing arts and crafts, and traveling.
